Spencer George Grimwood was born on 3rd March 1890 in Tuddenham (Mildenhall Q2-1890 4A:713), 3rd son of Robert and Sarah Elzabeth GRIMWOOD (née CLARKE).
1891 census...Aged 1, he was at The Cottages, The Street, Tuddenham with his father Robert GRIMWOOD [36] warrener born Tuddenham; his mother Sarah [35] born Bury St Edmunds; sisters Margaret [13] and Eva [4]; brothers Frederick [10] and Robert [9]. All the siblings were born in Tuddenham. Also with them was his aunt Elizabeth CLARKER [23] born Bury St Edmunds and her son Elijah [2] born Tuddenham. The entry in the school register at Tuddenham St.Mary Charity/Voluntary School shows the admission of Spencer and Eddie Grimwood on 30th September 1901, guardian Mrs Last (Their stepmother to be). There is no date of birth for Eddie. They had previously attended Barton Mills and on 23rd October 1901 they left the village. On admission to Chippenham Junior Middle Infant's School on 11th June 1894 his birth date was entered as 4th April 1891. He left on 7th September 1900 when they left the village 1901 census...Aged 11, he was at The Cross Road, Barton Mills with his widower father, now warrener/gamekeeper; sister Margaret; brothers Fred (warrener/gamekeeper) and Eddie [8] born Chippenham. His mother had died in 1900 and his father married Agnes Sophie LAST in 1901 1911 census...Aged 21, a farm labourer, he was boarding with William and Mary BUTCHER and their family at The Alley, Barton Mills. His father had re-married and was a gamekeeper, at High Lodge Hill, Mildenhall with wife of 9 years, Agnes (born Ickworth Park) and Spencer's brother Edward (farm labourer).
The pension card has his mother at The Green Tuddenham St Mary, Suffolk.

Spencer enlisted in Newmarket. With no Service record found, where and when he was wounded is not known, he died in the War Hospital in Epsom (there were four such hospitals in Epsom, one being the grandstand on the racecourse).
